12!!!!!

So today is Emily's 12th birthday!!! I cannot believe that I am the mother of a 12 year old. I feel so old!! She has turned into a wonderful girl and I am very proud of her! I think we are in for some interesting teen years though. She is very stubborn and can put up a good fight. But she has a wonderful heart and cares for others. She is old enough now to take the babysitting course and I think she will be great at that. She loves kids! To the left is a picture of her only a couple of days old. Below that is a picture today. For those with babies I can assure you that time really does fly. I feel like it was just yesterday she was that tiny. I miss those days...well all except the colic...I don't miss that!!
So...at 5:48 pm, I officially wish Emily a very Happy Birthday!!!! I love you!!

Emily has braces

Emily has been counting the days until she got her braces on. She thought they were exciting and wonderful...then she got them on. I am not sure she loves them at all right now. She got them on yesterday and was ok at first. As the day progressed they got a little more sore. She went to bed complainign but went right to sleep. She got up this morning in agony. Her mouth was very sore. She could not eat anything...or so she said...at breakfast. Even to the point that she didn't want to chew the Advil that will help take away the pain!! :) I sent her with soup for lunch and all soft snacks. She has them on for 2 years so hopefully it will get better!!

Here she is before and after!

Busy

A few things that have been keeping us busy lately:

We are looking for new cars right now. Our van lease is up this month and we are going back to a car. We are looking at the Optra wagon right now. We are going to test drive one tonight. We'll see if we like it.

Noah broke his glasses on the weekend. Had to take him to get them fixed yesterday. He missed the afternoon of school.

Emily has a project due on Wednesday and we all forgot about it. She worked really hard last night though...I was very proud of her.

The band has a big concert coming up on Oct 14th and Rob is pretty stressed about it.

2 of our fish died.

premiere week

I am very excited. A few of my favorite shows start this week.
I am excited to see Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice. ER also starts this week. Some shows started last week like Prison Break and Survivor. I might check out Dancing with The Stars this week if I have time.
I am really disappointed that Lost will not be starting until February!!!
I know this looks like we watch a lot of tv...but we do spend time together and do other things as well...I promise.

getting older

I let Noah and one of the daycare children walk to school on their own today. I was kind of sad to realize the he is old enough to go to school without me. (sigh)

I was very proud of Emily last night. Rob had to work late and he is usually the one that helps with math homework. She said she needed help and had a bit of a meltdown. I had her sit with me and read over what she had to do. Whenever she had a question I pointed to where she could find the answer. She ended up doing all the work on her own and she got it right!! Good job Emily!!

Noah came home yesterday and pretty much told us the whole lesson the teacher taught in social studies. They are studying rocks and minerals. He LOVED it. He collected rocks at recess and talked all through dinner about his collection and what he had learnt today. Good job on the teachers part...he got their attention and they listened!!
Noah now wants a book to help hm study what kind of rocks he has found! Guess we are making a trip to chapters soon!

kids

Both kids have had a good first couple of days at school. They both like their teachers. Noah has Mr. Long (Emily had him for grade 5...we like him) and Emily has Mr. Koch. He seems very nice. She has been very keen so far...coming right home and doing homework or studying...she got French homework the first day and a math test the second day!! Noah is not as keen...but he really never has been. And in true Noah fashion he woke up at 5 this morning with a high fever and a rash on his chest and back!! 3rd day of school and he is already home sick...perfect!!

We had his party this past Sunday at the pool. It was well worth the money (only $85). The instructor played games with them in the pool while we sat and watched!!

Nintendo Wii

So Rob and the kids decided after Christmas that they wanted a Nintendo Wii. It is pretty expensive so they started saving their allowance and spending money (Rob). They finally had enough money and started looking. They are pretty hard to find! Toys R Us was getting some in but they go pretty fast so you need to line up early. Rob and Noah went at 7:00 am and waited until they opened at 9:00. They did get one...they were 5th in line.

They are loving it. I have to admit it is lots of fun. We have had a few bowling nights as a family. My parents have even played it and had a blast.

Baseball

Emily decided this year that she would like to play baseball. So I signed her up to a co-ed league here in Barrhaven. Turns out not to many girls want to play...she is the only girl on her team and so far the only girl we have seen on any other team that we have played!! But she is doing really well. Learning lots of new things and trying really hard. There are a lot of boys flirting with my baby girl but we are keeping our eye on that!!!

Here are some pictures:

We took it in 5!!!

We had so much fun last night. The atmosphere was amazing. It as loud and exciting!! We really enjoyed ourselves.
Here are some pictures we took:

I should let you know that when I woke up Noah this morning, the first words out of his mouth were "who won". When I told him he burst into tears!! I tried not to gloat and be sympathetic. He was really sad!!!!
BUT...I am still glad we won. GO SENS GO!
He asked me on the way to school who we would be playing next. I said either New York Rangers or New Jersey Devils. He said "ok...I am now cheering for the Devils" Arggggg.

Do I really deserve it?

I am very lucky right now with the parents that I work for. I have had some rough ones in the past but right now, everyone is awesome. They are all really good to me and treat me well. One set of parents in particular seem to go over board with gifts (for any occasion). For example she gave me a $50 gift cert for Valentines. Anyway...she showed up at the door on Tuesday and handed me an envelope that said "To Melissa...you are the best" on the front. Inside were 2 TICKETS TO TONIGHT'S GAME!!!!!!!!! I was in shock!!!! She bid on e-bay to get them!!!

So...Rob and I are going to the game tonight. Rob had a tough time deciding to go. It is band practice night and hates to neglect his responsibilities...but he got someone to run the practice in his absence.

I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!

GO SENS GO!!!!!

We will eliminate the Penguins tonight when we win!!!!!

STRESS

So as if my life is not busy and stressful enough, I did not have a good night last night. I went to take out money to go to Dollorama (they will still not accept debit) and the bank said I had no money left...weird because I know my bank account down to the penny...so Iknow there was money there. Called Rob and he checked the account online. He suggested gong over to the bank because it looked like there was a with drawl that was not either of us. Well...got to the bank and it turns out that someone had taken $500 out of my account. She gave me the number to the Fraud people. Rob called when I got home. they said someone in Montreal took the money out but because of the investigation they could not tell us where they copied Rob's card. So we both had to get new debit cards. It will take about 3-5 business days to get our money back but we will get it back..thank goodness!!!
SO...be very careful with your debit cards. It is a huge Fraud scam going on right now. Never let it out of your sight at a store and never let them scan it twice. If it did not go through the first time ask them to cancel the order and start over. We are going back to a cash budget and using out cards as little a possible.
It is scary when you know people had access to out information ...and our money!!!!

Lost

I have not talked a lot about Lost lately....but I am enjoying it more now then ever. Every episode is more exciting then the last. They are telling us more info and keeping things interesting. At least that is my opinion. Some people that I have talked too totally disagree..but I still love it!!!

We Lost

My Dad had bought 2 tickets to the Sens game last night against Boston. He unfortunately had to work late so he gave the tickets to me and Rob. I was very excited. I love going to Sens games. This one was not that exciting...we lost. We were also a little late and missed Healty's goal in the first minute of play!!! Oh well...at least it wasn't playoffs!!!!!!
GO SENS GO!!!
