Cried like a baby

We sat down last night to watch some tv and after flipping through some channels, we landed on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I ended up crying through most of the hour. If you have never seen the show...the idea is that Ty Pennington and his design team help people who have had a hard go of it rebuild their house...to be much better then it was before...and they refurnish it as well.
Last night they chose a mom who had 6 kids. Her and her husband had finally bought their first home and he was fixing it up for her. He was working on the basement trying to stop a leak and fix the problem. On Christmas Eve 2005 he started having flu like symptoms so he went to bed. In the middle of the night his wife...who was nursing their 24 day old baby that dad had delivered at home....noticed that he was having a seizure. She called to their 10 year old dtr to call 911 and they both started performing CPR. He ended up dying that night on Christmas Eve. They found out later that the mold in the basement from the leak was the reason for the seizure and his death.
Well....I gone. I cried for the whole hour. They built her a beautiful home. They also built it with wood that was dipped in a chemical so that it would never mold. She could have peace of mind that her kids will never suffer like her husband did.
They made a special garden in the back in honour of their Dad. It was very moving.
Anyway...it is a good show if you like to cry a bit!!
It made me very thankful for my healthy family!!!!!!!

Still think you are having a bad day??

A man was working on his motorcycle on his patio and his wife was in the kitchen. The man was racing the engine on the motorcycle when it accidentally slipped into gear. The man, still holding onto the handle bars, was dragged through the glass patio doors and along with the motorcycle dumped onto the floor inside the house. The wife, hearing the crash, ran into the dining room and found her husband lying on the floor, cut and bleeding, the motorcycle lying next to him, and the shattered patio door. The wife ran to the phone and summoned the ambulance. Because they lived on a fairly large hill, the wife went down the several flights of stairs to the street to escort the paramedics to her husband.
After the ambulance arrived and transported the man to the hospital, the wife righted the motorcycle and pushed it outside. Seeing that gas was spilled on the floor, the wife got some paper towels, blotted up the gasoline, and threw the towels in the toilet. The man was treated and released to come home. Upon arriving home, he looked at the shattered patio door and the damage done to his motorcycle.
He became despondent, went to the bathroom, sat down on the toilet and smoked a cigarette. After finishing the cigarette, he flipped it between his legs into the toilet bowl, while seated. The wife, who was in the kitchen, heard the loud explosion and her husband screaming.
She ran into the bathroom and found her husband lying on the floor. His trousers had been blown away and he was suffering burns on the buttocks, the back of his legs, and his groin. The wife again ran to the phone to call the ambulance. The very same paramedic crew was dispatched and the wife met them at the street. The paramedics loaded the husband on to the stretcher and began carrying him to the street. While they were going down the stairs to the street accompanied by the wife, one of the paramedics asked the wife how the husband had burned himself. She told them and the paramedics started laughing so hard, one of them slipped and tipped the stretcher, dumping the husband out. He fell down the remaining stairs and broke his arm - Taken from a Florida Newspaper.

Having a Bad Day?

Fire authorities in California found a corpse in a burned out section of forest while assessing the damage done by a forest fire. The deceased male was dressed in a full wet suit, complete with scuba tanks on his back, flippers, and face mask. A post-mortem revealed that the person died not from burns, but from massive internal injuries. Dental records provided a positive identification.
Investigators set about to determine how a fully clad diver ended up in the middle of a forest fire. It was revealed that on the day of the fire, the person went for a diving trip off the coast some 20 miles from the forest. The fire-fighters, seeking to control the fire as quickly as possible, called in a fleet of helicopters with very large dip buckets. Water was dipped from the ocean and then flown to the forest fire and emptied. You guessed it. One minute our diver was making like Flipper in the Pacific, the next he was doing the breast stroke in a fire dip bucket 300 feet in the air.
Apparently he extinguished exactly 5'10" of the fire. Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed - This article was taken from the California Examiner, March 20, 1998

Frustrated

I had a very frustrating day last Friday. I had taken a day off (remember..I don't get paid when i take a day off...I lost about $80.00) to go to a specialist appointment at the Queensway Carleton Hospital. I had to have some tests done. I got there at 12:30 only to be told that the doctor had called in sick and I could not have my test done that day. I asked why they did not call me and they said my name was not even on their list. SO.....we headed over to the doctors office to get some answers and reschedule another appointment. The receptionist was very rude and said my name was on her list and did not know what happened. She rescheduled my appointment for March 2 (another day off...another $80.00).
When we got home there was a message from her saying that she had called the hospital and that they had put in my health card number and the name Melissa McLaren came up. She thought that name meant nothing to me...ha! (It was my maiden name for all those who didn't know me then) I haven't used that name for 12 years...very weird. I had just renewed my health card and am still waiting for it...wonder what name will be on it??
Anyway...that was my frustrating day!

33

So...it is my 33 birthday today. I feel OLD!!
We had a great weekend. We had Glenn and Dana and the kids over for supper on Friday and we had a great time. It is nice to visit with good friends over a good meal!
On Saturday, we slept in and had a bit of a lazy morning. We went over to my parents around lunch...my Aunt Dorothy, Uncle Al and my cousin Stephanie were in town. We all decided to go shopping while Rob stayed home to bake me a birthday cake and to watch the Sens game...which we won 8-3 over Montreal (GO SENS GO). He did a great job with my cake. He made a "3" mold out of cardboard and then put wax paper inside it./ He then baked the cake inside the mold. When he was done he had make a "33" cake. I was very impressed. I will post a picture when I can. We had fun celebrating my birthday on Saturday.
Sunday was a busy day. I don' think that I mentioned on here but Rob in now the Senior bandmaster at Woodroffe Community Church...(our church). His first Sunday was last week. Well...because he is now in charge he has pressured me back into playing in the band. Yesterday was my first time playing in church in 5 years. Man I was nervous. I think I did ok though. Rob said he didn't hear any horrible notes.
Mom and Dad took us to a great brunch after church. Very yummy.
We had more cake and more fun after dinner and then it was home to get the kids ready for bed.
It was a good weekend for an old girl like me!!

CORRECTION: I wrote this post and saved it on Sunday January 14th but posted it on the 15th. My birthday is really on January 15th...not the 14th.

Back to work

I have not posted for a long time! The Christmas holidays were great but crazy! It started on Christmas Eve. My Mom had to go to the Emergency room...she had cellulitis. She had to be on iv antibiotics for 4 days. This meant trips to the ER at 8:00 am, 4:00 pm and midnight every day. We all took turns taking her so that my Dad could have a break. He was exhausted...so was she!! My Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Al and Stephanie were a great help so that my Mom could rest. We still had a great Christmas day...the kids were totally spoiled and the turkey was great!! I will post some pictures of Christmas morning when I get around to downloading them.
On Wednesday we left for Toronto. Ian and Lauren were in town from Winnipeg and needed to get to Guelph for Thursday...my mom and dad could not travel...she was still on iv...so we took them down a day earlier then we had planned to leave. We stayed at my aunt and uncles for a night and then headed to Listowel for a few days. We had a nice visit...and returned home on New Years Eve. We were very tired by this point. The kids had not been to bed before 10 any night since Christmas. We were going to stay up with the kids for New Years but we all decided to go to bed early. Party Animals aren't we!!!!
Anyway...today I am back at work. 2 of the kids are back...Olivia and Grace.
I will post my list of New Years resolutions in awhile. I am excited about most of them!
